Speech Recognition.
Speech Recognition Software. The ideal of Speech Recognition software is simple,
the user speaks, the computer recognizes the users speech and then the recognized
speech is converted to software commands or text. Sounds simple. But it is not.
The problem lies not with the software per say, rather with the human voice. We
are all different, we speak differently (tone, accent, pitch etc). These differences
in the human voice is what sets acceptable voice recognition software from the great
voice recognition software. With good or great voice or speech recognition software
the developers have included a voice training protocol, which allows the user to
train the software for precision voice or speech recognition. There are many advantages
of using good voice or speech recognition software solutions. We all spent the first
12 years or so at school and after that many of us attended colleges or universities
for an additional 4 to 5 years. If we were lucky during the first 12 school years,
having an hour a week behind school pc was a lot. If we attended colleges or universities
most of that time was spent with our noises in the books. Then with your degree
or certificate at hand, you enter the work force (fast paced, competitive) with
very little or no experience, training or skills with the keyboard. This is where
good speech recognition software shows its financial worth.
Speech Recognition for learning languages.
Speech recognition, if used correctly can be a great tool for learning languages. Using word processing software like Microsoft word, language learners can practice pronunciation of words and even dictate complete sentences and documents.
With Speech recognition you can dictate documents, if your pronunication is correct the Speech recognition software will inform the word processing software of the word or sentence that needs to be typed. With good Speech recognition software, you can even control all or most aspects of your computer. Everything that a computer user might do with a mouse or keyboard can be done with voice commands.
Microsoft Vista includes Speech recognition. But there is a catch. Firslty not all languages are supported with the Speech recognition. Secondly the Speech recognition language supported by your version of Vista is tied to the language of the operating system. So if you have an English version of Windows Vista you will only have the English Speech recognition software installed. So if you are learning Spanish, your English version of Vista Speech recognition will not recognize any Spanish words. However Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate supports multiple language user interfaces. This means with Vista Ultimate Speech recognition in multiple langauges is supported. The downside is Windows Vista Ultimate is really over priced.
Language learning with Microsoft Word.
Microsoft word has to be the most complete and language perfect
document software solution. When you type it automatically picks up spelling errors,
grammatical errors and other sentence structure errors. If you were learning a language
like English, why not utilize the power of Microsoft Word in combination with a
good speech recognition software package. Remember there are many solutions for
speech recognition. Shop around for the best price and support possible. Where possible
ask for a fully functional time limited trial period. Remember the ideal solution
will include a software to voice training feature.
